The beauty of the Faith
This is one of the photos I took in Rome. It is the sanctuary area of St. Paul's Outside the Walls. It reminds me that Christian Britain was not always the grey, slightly austere environment we usually have in our minds. It was also, at times, vibrant and colourful. I love Durham Cathedral with its majestic columns and stonework. I like the way the light plays on the grey stone, but before the Reformation is was a blaze of colour. We, in Britain, had wall paintings in our churches (see the Parish Church in Pickering) and some of our cathedrals were almost as splendid as those we can still see on the continent.
