Bishop Devine of Motherwell resigns

This report links the departure of Bishop Devine with the Kindle book authored by Fr. Daspard, one of his priests. The book has been withdrawn from sale because, says this report, of two legal complaints. The Vatican has made no comment about the Bishop's resignation but it is interesting that he offered his resignation before, when he reached 75, so it is merely a case of it now being accepted. The timing could not be more curious considering the book's allegations and the fact that the Pope has refused to appoint any more bishops to Scotland until an investigation has taken place. Fr. Daspard, meanwhile, is silent.
