I just saw the news of the death of Fr. John Edwards S.J. on Fr. Finegan's blog. How quickly time passes! I remember him coming to lead a parish mission (with two sisters) at St. Robert's, Harrogate when I was the senior curate there in the late 1980's. He was terrific. He became known to many as the most effective mission preacher in the country. It was very difficult to get hold of him because he was in such demand. He died just after celebrating Mass which is wonderful. I have admired him for many years and I pray that he will now enjoy eternal bliss and be able to pray for us who are left without him.
I agree with every word. I first met him when I was at University in the mid 80s and most recently at a parish mission in Halifax. I loved his analogy of the Hail Marys in the Rosary being like the wheels of a modern railway locomotive - helping it and carrying it along to the destination. Well, I hope John Edwards SJ has reached his heavenly destination.
