A tribute to St. Joan of Arc and a remarkable film (for the Year of Faith)

The film "Joan of Arc" with Ingrid Bergman was made in 1948. It is remarkable for its time. The studio butchered it, but thanks to dedicated hands we now have the original film and soundtrack on DVD.
At the time it was made Bergman had been involved in a scandalous affair (with Rosselini) and many avoided the film because of this. It was very expensive to make. Later Bergman became somewhat obsessed with Joan, collecting objets d'art connected with her which filled her flat in Rome. She also began helping the Brigitine Sisters in Rome in their work for the poor. It is worth getting the DVD. May St. Joan pray for us in the Year of Faith that we will be strong in the Lord and willing to fight for the truth - not with a sword, but with the Scriptures in our arms, and with our rosaries, on our knees.

  1. Thank you for that Fr. John. there are so many wonderful films on the Saints. One of my favourites is called the Reluctant Saint about St. Joseph of Cupertino. There are also marvelous films on the Maronite Saints, St. Rafqa, St.Charbel and others.
