One of my favourite paintings - Murillo's Holy Family

Some years ago, on a visit to the National Gallery in London, I found myself in front of this painting. I had no idea that it was in that gallery. It is a big painting and it is very striking. The photographs and copies do not do it justice. The next time I go to London you can be sure I will be heading for it as soon as I can.

  1. Murillo also has Mary dressed in red, the colour of the Holy Spirit, recalling Luke 1:34-35, as in his painting of the Adoration of the Shepherds [http://bangortobobbio.blogspot.com/2011/12/god-takes-delight-in-his-people-sunday.html ]

    Happy New Year!
