Mahler

This is the centenary of Gustav Mahler's death. Below is an excerpt from his "Resurrection" Symphony - . The singer is Janet Baker who was one of my favourites, especially for Elgar (she is retired). You may need to pump up the volume. Here is the translation of what she is singing;

Primeval Light O red rose! Man lies in greatest need! Man lies in greatest pain! How I would rather be in heaven. There came I upon a broad path when came a little angel and wanted to turn me away. Ah no! I would not let myself be turned away! I am from God and shall return to God! The loving God will grant me a little light, Which will light me into that eternal blissful life!

  1. A post has appeared on another blog about
    Mother Maria Celeste Crostarosa.

    I value your views on these matters and am pleased that the new Association of Catholic Women Bloggers has published material on a mystic.
    Where does she, her message and experiences stand in your estimation?
    Thank you.

    (Lovely video. Do you have a favourite composer of film music?
    The Halle usually include The Big Country in their repertoire)

  2. This made me think of Afzaal the "Rosary man" in Pakistan (your post 3/4/2011).
    How is he?
