The news of Paul Goggins' death came as a shock. I knew him quite well when we were fellow seminarians at Ushaw College, Durham (he was a few years below me). We were never in contact after he left, but I almost bumped into him in an airport and he did a kind of double-take as he turned back and looked at me with an expression that said, "I'm sure I know him". I remember him in the College production of The Gondoliers. He played one of them. I was the Duke of Plaza-Torro. Paul had a great sense of humour and an infectious laugh. I remember him as generous and thoughtful. May he rest in peace.
